The Summer I Turned Pretty - Review of the TV show, season 2

Warning: This does contain spoilers.

I just finished season 2 of one of my favorite shows that exists, The Summer I Turned Pretty. The reason I love the show is because it involves the three things I love the most: hot guys, romance, & a love triangle. Ever since I was super young, I've always loved romance shows and books. I'm guilty of being that one person who skips through a show just to see when my favorite couples get back together, and I'm also the girl who has quit watching a show all together because I spoiled it for myself, saw that the couple I shipped didn't get together, and decided it wasn't worth it to keep going.

Yup. I was obsessed with High School Musical growing up because I adored Troy and Gabriella. I watched House of Anubis because of Eddie and Patricia and Nina and Fabian. I watched One Tree Hill because of Naley; if you aren't a Nathan and Haley fan, then watch the first season and you will be, that's a promise. I think you get the point. I'm not the biggest adventure or action fan but I'll watch it just for that one romance subplot. I think couples are so cute. Right now I'm rewatching Pretty Little Liars and the only reason I'm able to is because I know Hanna and Caleb end up together, and in my eyes, Toby and Spencer will always belong together.

If you've already seen the finale of season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty, then you're either thinking I'm on top of the world or devastated. The love triangle came to an end and Belly picked one of the brothers. For those of you who have never seen the show, basically it follows Belly and two brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. They've always been family friends growing up. Belly's mom was best friend's with Conrad and Jeremiah's mom, who sadly passed away from cancer in between the first and second seasons.

I'm not going to waste any time before saying I am definitely Team Jeremiah. So yeah, I was actually happy with the end of the season for once. I was jumping up and down because I really didn't think she'd pick him. Conrad is the cool and mysterious type of guy and Jeremiah is the sweet one. I'm so happy the girl finally picked the sweet one. I find Jeremiah a lot hotter than Conrad too, but that doesn't matter; that's just a bonus haha. Jeremiah has always cared for Belly through everything; they've always been best friends. That's why I ship them. They got to know each other on a deep level before crushing on each other. Belly always crushed on Conrad so I feel like she fell in love with the idea of him. She liked that he was bad and did his own thing. But he never fought for Belly; he quit when things got tough.

I do agree with the argument that Conrad went through a lot with his mom passing, but so did Jeremiah. Jeremiah is still beyond sad, but he was able to connect with Belly over it. Conrad only pushed her away. He broke her heart, and I don't like that. He's never really committed to her. Yet Jeremiah is like a golden retriever. He's so loyal to Belly and I have no doubt he'll treat her with the respect she deserves.

I think the character development was awesome in that Belly was finally able to realize this. She was finally able to see that Jeremiah has been the one there for her the whole time.

For The Summer I Turned Pretty fans, who do you like better and why? Are you satisfied with the end like I am?

I'm pretty sure there's going to be a season 3, and to be honest, it scares me a little. As much as I love the show, I loved the ending of season 2 so much that I don't want there to be more. I don't think I've ever not wanted more seasons of a show I've enjoyed. But another season means Belly is probably going to break up with Jeremiah and start going for Conrad again. Because there's got to be conflict again. I wish they would just leave it as is. Belly and all the characters changed. Belly's mom was even able to read her memoir about Beth, her late BFF, in a public group, which shows she grew. Taylor, Belly's best friend, was able to admit to Steven (Belly's brother) that she was afraid he would hurt her. Conrad was able to selflessly tell Belly he did still love her; he was able to let her and Jeremiah be together. Everyone changed. We don't need more, do we?

Well, since it's probably going to happen anyway, season 3 I'll still be Team Jeremiah. Let's go! The bad boy always gets the girl. Jenny Han, I haven't read the books yet, but please tell me Belly ends up with Jeremiah.

Reading the books are the next thing on my bucket list.

Thank you, Jenny Han, for writing such a good YA romance. I hope someday I can get readers just as invested in my characters as you do yours :)
